The Lost Works of Hypatia of Alexandria
The Lost Works of Hypatia of Alexandria is a short point-and-click adventure game created by a solo dev in 10 days for the Historically Accurate Game Jam (HAGJ8 - theme: Famous Assassinations).
It is the day after Hypatia is assassinated and the Patriarch of Alexandria is planning to raze her house and burn all its contents. You, playing as one of her last students, made it past the guards to her house and are planning to smuggle out her most important works to preserve for history.
The guards are just outside and you only have a small satchel, so you must decide which five works you will save.
The works in this game are mostly fictional (very few of her works have been found, so we know her mostly by her reputation), but they are based on reasonable guesses for what she could have contributed. The teachings the narrator/player relays at the end are based on my (very basic) understanding of the philosophy of Plotinus, which Hypatia followed.
Known bugs:
- When leaving rooms at a tight angle, you may have to move your mouse precisely to find an open spot to navigate to.
- Occasionally, the camera transitions can get stuck on the wrong room. You should be able to reset the transition and get the right camera by moving in and out of the room again.
- Godot 4 and 3D can both be tricky in web builds, so I apologize if there are any performance problems. I was actually unable to get the download builds to launch, so this game is only available online at the moment. If you have problems, please try a different browser (Firefox/Windows 11 works well in my testing). If I can figure out the problem, I will try to submit download versions after the jam ends.
