Mouse in Cat Land

Steal cheese from Cat Land in this tiny sidescroller adventure created for Godot Wild Jam #63. The theme is: Cats ! and this entry uses the wildcard "Arch-nemesis".

This was created for a 9-day jam, and some complications led reducing the possible player actions and nerfing the danger element for a smoother user experience. (Though there is still one cat who can hurt you!) . Instead, I pivoted the focus to animations, transitions and the UI, with the goal of creating a cohesive style that helped to tell the story of the game.

Note: There is only one level in this jam release. The other levels are permanently locked on the map screen. Sorry!

Controls

Play with keyboard or controller. Gameplay uses directional movement only, and common directional mappings are all enabled by default (WASD, arrow keys, D-pad, left or right joysticks). Menu navigation uses the mouse or buttons shown in the on-screen hints. These can be changed in the "Controls" menu.

This game was made with Godot 4.1. This is my first Godot Wild Jam and I'm incredibly grateful to the organizers and Discord community. I also greatly appreciate all the artists and musicians who have shared their works for use in games like this, Itch.io for hosting it, and all the contributors who have made Godot into such a powerful, free engine.
